more self-centered pessimistic rambling. there have always been problems throughout history. sure we do have a lot of problems these days but we've also solved a lot of problems. personally i have faith in the human race. there are a lot of people who don't care about the future but there are also a lot who do and are trying to make things better.

Better for who? Themselves? How many generations in the future. The survival of the human race forever is simply not possible.

troll, i fell sorry for you..you are gunna be banned again when you probably really don't deserve to. next time, dont make it so obvious.
peace,
Nick

Don't feel sorry for me. What you are proposing is easy enough to do but that isn't the point nor the thread topic. As to what I have bolded.....truer words were never spoken.......

Ah, because you can see into the future forever?

The sun explodes in ~ 5 billion years. Around that same time we collide with another galaxy. That is if we don't kill ourselves or suffer a relatavily common ELE. So we survive them all and live to see the freezing of the universe or beyond that the decay of all matter. Do you believe we will be able to create another universes and survive the creation of it? Tha future is set in stone.

The sky is falling! Hehe...

Seriously though...
Tsunamies, earthquakes - geologic activity... both occur on the shore of the same body of water... related? most likely
rising gas prices, war, inflation, terrorism - all related... we hate the middle east cause they control most of the world's oil that we so heavily depend on... the terrorist hate us for trying to force our lifestyle on them... war breaks out... inflation is just normal because people are greedy
global warming - I still haven't seen anything that convinces me that the earth doesn't go through normal hot/cold cycles

... on the subject of global warming, and rising water levels due to melting ice bergs, most of which are under water... since water traps air when it freezes, wouldn't the water level go down since all that ice isn't displacing as much water?

I predict that in a couple thousand years, (maybe sooner) that life will be like Cowboy Bebop. My great-Nx grandchildren are in for a treat :)

No - the water level will not change.

An object floating in water displaces an amount of water equal to its own weight. A fully submerged object displaces its volume in water. Since water expands when it freezes to ice, an iceberg has a greater volume than the volume of an equivalent weight of liquid water.

If you forcibly submerge a pound of ice, it will displace more than a pound of water as the volume of the ice is larger than the volume of one pound of water. In this case the water level will rise.

But ice floats.

If you release the submerged pound of ice, it will rise until the volume of ice under the water displaces exactly one pound of water. Obviously the remainder of the ice is above the surface. If you add air bubbles, the submerged ice will still displace its weight in water but the amount of ice above the water will be greater. The key here is that floating ice - no matter how much air it contains - will displace a certain amount of water. That amount will not change when the ice melts. (See Archimedes' principle.)

Ice which is not floating, for example the ice on the Greenland and Antarctic land masses, does not displace ocean water. If this ice were to melt then the ocean levels would rise.

Try this experiment.

why? what is your reasoning?

Know any empires that have survived yet? This one grew too fast, it's heading for a burnout real soon.
The US is not an empire. All the empires that have failed have tried to take over and rule many other lands as well as their own....and none were democracies.

Who's going to revolt on America? The Virgin Islands? Guam?
The biggest chance of revolt in America itself is from the people. If the majority ever sit down and realize just how heavily we are taxed overall, there would be some hell to pay.
We get home with less than 40 cents of every dollar we make.
If Joe SixPack ever figures that out en masse, maybe things will change.
We will be taxed into revolt eventually.

the human race IS slowly killing itself. we just keep multiplying with no thought for the environment. call me a tree hugger, but when your children's children's children have no goodplace to live you might think otherwise.
i really don't know how we can dig ourselves out of this hole; does anyone have any SERIOUSLY FEASABLE ideas/plans of action? just wondering
hope this dosnt turn into a giant flamewar, really there is nothing to argue about is there? its pretty obvious that things are starting to go downhill.

last i heard, the first two were down to mothernature and the third would happen to the earth anyway......doesnt the earth have like a cycle where it goes into ice ages and then back out and then back in etc? of course it takes millions of years

and a nice fact i found the otherday, anyone who tells you that the north pole melting will raise see levels is wrong, the north pole isnt a landmass its jus ice, and it displaces the same amount of water as it holds in its ice structure

"And as we're straddling from one deal to the next, who's got his eye on the planet, as the air thickens, the water sours, and even the bees' honey takes on the metallic taste of radioactivity? And it just keeps coming, faster and faster. There's no chance to think, to prepare; it's buy futures, sell futures, when there is no future! "

Nope! You've just got better access to it all through the internet and cable TV

Natural disasters = humans killing themselves off?

why are there so many? there didnt used to be so many did there?
if im totally wrong, let me know. i just want other people's oppinions

The real 'problem' here is the media. Ok well its not a problem, but I think it is the answer to your question. The reason we HEAR so much about the natural disasters today is because we have sooo many media outlets...which thrive on human suffering.

Take the whole child kidnapping craze that went nutty a while ago (now with the Amber alerts and all). If you listened to the news you'd think it is a new very serious wave of child abductors taking kids everywhere, but the fact of the matter is there were MORE child abductions in the 70s and 80s than there are now. They just werent all NATIONAL news.

If you paid any attention to history, you should know that this is the normal run of things.

Human consumption always exceeds the available resources, which causes massive failure.

I love how people keep saying gas prices are at record highs... even though when you take inflation into account, they are at almost record lows.

This is so hilarious.

I don't know what's funnier? That he thinks natural disasters are something new, or that he thinks we are anywhere close to running out of space or natural resources?

Ah well, every generation of youth thinks they can "fix" the world. Then they grow old and every generation of elders thinks the new generation of youth is going to hell in a handbasket.

And it all just repeats itself.

Nothing changes... it all stays the same. Only the names change.

Bingo!

And then they walk into the mini market and pay more for 8-12ozs of water than they just paid for a gallon of gas.

It's entirely possible. Who knows what the future holds? I doubt you do.
