What is this world coming to with myspace and facebook?

People are on it ALL THE TIME. Like they have no other life. I'm in a computer lab right now... and the three other people in here are either on myspace or facebook.

What are people's kicks with these programs?!

thats why we block it at work and EVERY other place of employment or education should also.

Then again here we all sit on AT....

My friend Adam and I thought of an idea like that back in 96. It was called "Teens You See"... but we were 12... so we had no time obviously. Now we're working on a very PRACTICAL site that will be very useful and we will be proud of it ....

But honestly, how do people feel proud about those sites? I just don't get it. REAL WORLD people .... meet people in the REAL world. Keep track of your friends in the REAL world. Sorry about the rant.

Honestly, am I not wrong to say that if I have the stereotype of looking for a girl who "doesn't go to bars or clubs and meets people other ways", I could almost now apply the "looking for a girl without facebook or myspace" stereotype too?

I really don't get the addiction. It's funny how incredbily main stream it's suddenly become to be sitting online all fscking day messing with Face Book or MySpace, where just a few years ago, it was terribly heinous to do the same thing with UO or EQ. Now it's also very acceptable to sit all day playing WoW.

not all people feel "proud"

i'll admit i have a myspace and face book account, but i don't brag about how "great" my site is, and i don't consider it "awsome"

its mainly something i use to keep in touch with people from highschool if need be

I'm thinking of blocking it here at work. We have some computers out front for walk in customers to use. There is this one girl who used to come in all of the time just to get on that. She'd stay on it all day long, sometimes picking up her kids from school late just to stay on it. then she met some wierdo from NC through myspace who she just let move in with her. They both started coming in and each getting on a seperate machine to get on myspace! They had issues. They both finally quit coming around after we kept having "internet provider issues" 😉.

Meh. I met my current gf on friendster. I messaged her about some music we both like, and it turns out that we know a lot of the same people and have a ton of stuff in common. I don't like myspace because it seems to be filled with attention whores looking to grab as many fake friends and random hookups as possible. In other words, networking sites can be used for positive social interaction, but myspace just seems to attract a trashier crowd.

Help me understand this.. What is there to "do" on myspace or facebook? (I don't use either one) What would people be doing for hours - updating their own page?

I always thought it was a combination blog/pix gallery/guestbook type of thing.

my 13 year old cousin lives on myspace now and he is a huge wwe ray mastero fan. So last night I got some gay looking pic of ray mastero with his shirt off and put a dialog box on the side of his face with a comment about speedos, hot sweaty guys and a game of twister at a pajama party and loaded it as his pic for myspace and he went nuts. My aunt and uncle were laughing there arses off. Best part is he had never added a pic to his profile because he doesnt know how. So I left it there for an hour and then removed it for him, but wow he was one poed little 13 year old.

Dude, my ex g/f would come over my house and just sit on myspace for hours. I'd be like, wtf are you doing on this thing for so long and she would tell me she is talking to her friends. I looked and she had something like 90+ friends. I looked at her and said do you seriously consider these people your friends at this point. She hasn't seen them or really talked to them in years. Just went to HS/Middle school with them and remember who they are. Its just plan annoying and stupid.

My x girlfriend has facebook, myspace, friendster, webshots, etc... When we were dating it pissed me off so much that she used that crap. Eventually she got so pissed I didn't have facebook that she made an account FOR me. After we broke up, I made sure they deleted my account. I didn't want that crap.

HAHA that funny b/c my g/f made me a myspace account....hell I didn't even know my password and for my picture she used a picture of us. I was like WTF is that and she said it was my myspace account. Long behold its gone now.

Am I the only one who sees the irony with mjuszczak's post?

I mean mjuszczak, you said you wanted to develop a system where you could login or whatever and see people online within a certain radius based on zip code or whatever and then chat with them real time.

In all honesty it's not that much different than MySpace / Facebook, moreso similar to Facebook since that's based on schools so everyone's usually in your "area" so you can meet / talk to them.

While I don't agree with all the time people spend on these sites (I don't use either), it definately seems a little hypocritical of you to criticise these sites when you're making a site that you claim to be "practical" but serves a similar purpose. Hell MySpace and Facebook IS practical for some so when you get right down to it, it's the exact same thing.

Allowing people to connect with each other.

She deleted it?

My x did the same thing... (not deleted it, but created it and made a picture of us as the main picture)

BTW: the site I am referring to as being "practical" is our food site, NOT geounion. Geounion is just something I'm doing in my spare time. And yes, I think its just as bad as myspace/facebook.
