I'm of the school of thought that we are not intelligent enough to come close to understanding the universe in its entirety. Why it exists, what it is, etc.

If we think of intelligence as a spectrum, from single cell organisms to whatever else, believing we are on the highest end of that scale is on par with believing the world is flat and the center of the universe. We're likely relatively stupid.

heck, the Bose-Einstein condensate took almost 60 years just to be confirmed, and we have yet to see a good use for it
