Centipede! Good bug. I think they can bite humans, but if so, you never hear of it. They hunt other bugs, and are very effective. They also make a nasty squish which isn't nice to clean up, in case you need more reason to leave it alone.

'the only good bug, is a dead bug'
actually, i don't mind them normally, but i got bit by a giant , and i mean, like, a good 8-10 inch long centipede. while i was asleep.

i felt something on the back of my leg and made a half-asleep swipe at it and then, ouch!! i grabbed my leg and felt something squirmy and was like, AUUUGGGHHHHHH!!!!! threw it the fuck away from me, bolted out of bed and turned on the light to see the giant 'it' crawling under a door.:(o_O:'(D:

THat is scary....I know the feeling hehe

THat's how I ended up with a dehumidifier and Home Defense spray 2 years ago.

One ran accross the bathroom floor......and then there was one on my pants (thought it was dust......swiped at it....and was in shock). hehe

they're aggressive, and their bites are supposed to hurt a lot

was it one of these?

Ahh. Good old centipede.

I had those all over the house when I was in high school 20 years ago.

I didn't mind them until one day I woke up. Decided to eat a Danish or something I had on the counter, and started eating it in the dark on the way to school only to find out the centipede was eating it too. Needless to say. I was surprised and it sort of freaked me out when I thought I was biting into the Danish to have a crawling critter there instead (and it started squirming).

Then I had to start nuking them from orbit.

Those are good to have, they kill spiders and other bugs.

Pick and choose/pros and cons

We have those. I HATE them because of how long their many many legs are. Hideous. But yes, google says that they are beneficial and kill other things.

On the other hand, I once saw one of these things go up against a spider. The spider won. Both were pretty full sized. Pussy...

Dolphins can take out a great white too, but chances are Sharks win most of the time.

I wrote a short letter to my house centipede population the other day when I saw a few:

Dear House Centipede -

I love that you eat other bugs, particularly cockroaches. I cannot thank you enough for this dirty task. However, being that you are perhaps one of the most hideous of the domestic bugs, I must kindly ask you to remain hidden while I am present. Should you need to move across open space, do so only when I am absent. Should you violate this simple rule, you risk your life to me smushing you with a shoe.

Keep up the good work, but remember - stay hidden, stay safe.

Thanks,

Management
---

I appreciate that they eat other bugs, but they look like something straight out of hell.

Centipedes and millipedes have been very successful as a group. Those bugs come from a long line of bugs eleventy billion years old.
