What is this thing?

They look nasty if you ever flip them over, link, but it seems other then the spiky part they are harmless.

Ignore the weird guy and just look at all it's freaky legs.
 
Pretty cool animals. Apparently, they haven't changed much since prehistoric days.

some unethical aquarium shops sell them for reef tanks...where they do NOT belong.

I once stepped on one in the surf. It was upside-down and wrapped around my foot. I was young, and a little freaked-out, but it was no biggie.
