What is this spider?

Found a dead spider on my carpet this afternoon... I just moved in a new house and it has quite a few daddy-long-legs that I keep having to kill, but I haven't seen this one before. I'm not sure why or how it died, which is also strange.

Anyone know how to get rid of spiders! I just had a pest guy come to the house and he said there really isn't a way to kill them except to kill their food source (bugs, etc), which I don't really see too many ants or anything so I'm not sure how or why these spiders keep popping up.

Thats funny I killed one similar last night and would also be intersted. From what I found online it looks like a brown recuse in color and size, but does not have the telltale fiddle shape on its back.

I think they say it is hard to kill spiders because they dont drag their bellies on the ground to absorb poison. I just kill em when I see em.
 
Why are people so scared of spiders?

They're harmless to humans (99.999% aside from obvious poisonous ones if you live in the desert), are beneficial to us by killing and eating insects (moquitos, ants, flies). They're also not pests either. They EAT pests.

Think it's a common variation of wolf spider. Those are actually good to have around as they will eat just about anything... brown recluse include.

One time I had an infestation of the wolf spiders in my house. I proceeded to bomb the house and subsequently killed them off. It wasn't but about 6 months later that we had an infestation of brown recluse move in due to the lack of predators in the house... i.e., the wolf spiders I killed off.

From then on I have pretty much left the wolf spiders alone, and haven't had any other brown recluse outbreaks.

BTW, brown recluse are a light tan color without any hair... they also have very spindly legs.

Yea, they don't look too friendly. The only ones I don't kill are the jumping spider ones; the hairy black and white ones

Had not seen the no hair part before but now that I look at the pictures, you seem to be right. I think they also have 6 eyes instead of 8. Everytime my wife sees a spider its a brown recluse so I live on the edge... 🙂

Yeah looks like a wolf spider. I wouldn't kill them, they're fun to watch and eat all sorts of insects. It's cool to drop a fly in front of it and watch the spider pounce.

Jumping spiders are cool too - you try to scare them off, they turn around and look at you. Watching them catch food is neat too.


 
Don't kill spiders. Spiders are cool. Except when you wake up in your sleep and find a brown recluse on your shoulder.
 
We get some large, spindley legged spiders in our house every once in a while. Never get a chance to know what they are cause I kill them immediately (They are insanely quick). But one time one of them was right on the ceiling above me and several times they go walking across my floor really fast. I'd say each leg is about 3 inches long.. Body is light brown and small compared to the legs.
