what is this planet earth dvd and why is everyone going bonkers over it?

Planet Earth is a pretty interesting show for a little while, but after about 30mins or an hour it gets pretty boring to me. Some people just like to see nature in all of its beauty, and some people like to see a few interesting things about our planet (like me) so I can only stay interested in a short time. It's kinda cool to watch some rare species of leopard hunt down its prey and kill it though.

Oh yeah and it does have amazing HD like SearchMaster says.

Great cinematography, very high quality HD format and it captures some amazing footage of animals filmed in their natural environment. Some of it is footage of things nobody has ever seen before. Have you watched any of them?

Ive seen the HD versions in Walmart but the regular DVD's are sold out...I wanted to get this as a stocking stuffer to

HD quality wise - they had great cameras with very skilled cameramen.
Content wise - stunning

The reason you see that much talk about it on an enthusiast board is because it really is that good.

-edit-
It is reference quality on either format.

ive been going through the uk series from netflix. the american version has been on tv lately and i checked it out, because its worth watching again....it was the us version, of course, i think its sigourney weaver narrating, but id rather hear david attenborough. weaver sounds a bit bland and uninterested, either way, the content is fascinating.

That and the fact that everytime she pauses you imagine some kind of creature jumping out, squeling across the table.

No matter what the auditor, the video is pure reference quality. This is what HD can do when it is in the hands of capable crews and cameras. 1080 FTW!
