Lately I've had this strange problem - A file appeared on my HD called n3monap23.exe and ever since then I have had nothing but trouble. At school I can hook up to roadrunner and I have no problems but at home I have to dial up (yeah, I got a laptop). when I do, the first 5 min are OK, but after that the connection screws up - no webpage loads, the dumb little computers get stuck, can't get to the network connections, and I can't even load task manager! AIM still works fine through it all. When I go to disconnect, I have to pull the phone plug and reboot the computer to get full functionality back. I've tried deleting the file, and it just comes back next time I log on. Ad-aware, spybot, and anti-virus software don't see it as a threat, but it drives me nuts.

*EDIT* OK I just found that even at school it happens - I can't get half of the stuff to work. I am essentially locked down without wanting to be. Wonderful.....

any ideas what this thing is and how to kill it for good?

download ADAWARE, SPYBOT, and Spysweeper, and TrojanHunter

install them all.
update them all.

boot into safe mode,
and run all of them, one after the other, starting with trojanhunter, spysweeper, spybot, adaware.

Ignore any incompatibility warnings.

Reboot into safe mode again, once they have all run if they are able to fix the malware.

Run all again.

anything found?

if not, boot into normal mode,
run them all again.

anything found?
if yes, what the hell is it, and i hope i don't get it!!!

well I found out that this is some sort of bug that some guy made, and is using serverseed.com as the launch pad for it (gotta love IP address tracing 🙂) Whatever it is I hope there is a fix found for it!

Your antivirus ought to take care of it now. I'm cleaning up a neighbors computer that has the same problem and pulling the latest virus definition file resulted in Norton Antivirus putting this file in quarantine.
