What is this hardware the cable guy installed?

When i switched from cable to dsl a few months back the utility guy installed this hardware in my basement. What is it?

It doesn't have any inputs/ports but the cable on the far right is connected to an Ethernet cable that is either cable tv or broadband. I'm not sure which however. What i want to know is if i can somehow connect an Ethernet port to this(for broadband access).

Anomalistic Hardware

From the label it has nothing to do with data, it's a power supply. For some reason they put the power adapter for your cable modem in the basement it seems, and used a length of ethernet cable to get it from the basement power supply to the modem. Is the modem powered by Power over ethernet or something? Does the modem have a power adapter - if not, you've just found it.

might be a signal booster of some sort. maybe even a ground? never heard of a power adapter for a dsl/cable modem being installed in the basement like that, but who knows.

maybe the government installed it, do you use BT a lot?

Very funny.😀

I don't have a cable modem Just a direct connection to the wall.

Sorry, i misread your OP - if you've got DSL there has to be a modem somewhere, either it's a card in your computer or theres a phone line going to a dsl modem, and from there to a ethernet card with a cat5 cable.

Oh that's right i forgot...there is a modem outside my house. It's about 20 feet from this box though.

I agree. It appears to be the AC adapter for your DSL modem. Since the DSL modem is outside they probably had to find an outlet somewhere inside the house that would allow them to run a cable to the modem outside. The basement sounds like a good place. The "Ethernet" cable you see is probably the wire that goes from the adapter to power the DSL modem outside. Have you tried following the wire to see where it goes?
