Well... it's hard to "text" out the pronunciation of a chinese Z, so... you know how Mao Zedong was called Mao Tse Tung? Ze = Tse. Works the same way here. Zong is pronounced almost like song, but with a heavier downward accent. Zi has a dipping accent, and is pronounced somewhere between "ehh" and "uhh". So... yeah.

Why am I doing this?

I love the ones with beef and peanuts! And then the sweet ones with a little honey for dessert...*drool*

I guess dsong dse should've been zongzi...oh well :p

Is the rice made in a pot or rice cooker? Because you could make it taste better in a rice cooker.

dang that stuff is good... i dont like any of the meat filling or anything else... i like the ones with beans + bananas to make it soft and sweet inside

err, the rice is cooked in the leaf. you boil or steam the whole bunch.

to op, if it is wrapped in banana leaf, it is probably Filipino as opposed to Chinese.

This stuff taste like crap. I've tasted a lot from different sources: mom, grandma, relatives, restaurants and they all suck.

during the lunar new year, millions of vietnamese households have banh chung in their refrigerators. it's sorta the square version of the little pyramidal ones (a variant on the stuffing, too).

But then again, I was in the Philippines from 3-5yo.

or it could be Banh Gai, how ever it is wrap with palm leaves.

the long green ones are the one my mom makes this time of year. the one wrapped with the yellow string is store bought and closer to the one that's linked above as banh chung.
Could it be Banh Tet, which is similar to Banh Chunh but they are round and is elongated that tends to be wrapped in banana leaves instead of bamboo leaves.

Yup.

I have some glutinous rice in some ready-to-eat state from the supermarket. Throw it in the microwave and it's good to go. Yum yum.

I love jung but if I have a second one I always have indigestion unless I ate them with hot tea. This stuff is hard to digest.
