What is this device I found?

Holy high resolution, Batman! That is pretty cool actually. I'm interested as to what it is as well.
 
Well, it has fins on it, so it needs to dissipate heat. I'd say some kind of radiator. Maybe for a refrigeration device?
 
That's a jigger switch.

(the jigger goes on the opposite side of the widget)
 
I vote for a blinker switch. THe wheels rotate and sequentially turn on three lights on a side of the car, then all off at the same time. Popular in the 60's. Hence the electrical contacts (wire connectors with holes) and amature for a motor to connect.

I'd guess a tuner for an antenna - so a variable capacitor.

Do some of the fins rotate and are some fixed, and are they not all perfect discs? If so, I'd say variable capacitor, most likely used as a tuning device for a radio.
