That board game thread made me think of a card game i've liked for a long time but never really known the name of. I was told it was called Polish poker but after searching for it at google and wikipedia i really doubt that's the name of it.

See if you think these rules sound familiar:

all players are dealt 4 cards face down (which they can't look at), 2 face up (two rows of three with face up cards at the top of each row). Before going into more detail (it's kind of complicated) I'll just see if anyone recognizes it by these minor details. I already mentioned how the cards are dealt, but also...

Jacks=10 points
Queens=30 points
Kings = 0 points
Aces = -3 points

If no one recognizes it, i'll go into further rules of the game.

Edit for Additional Info

Well, since no one still knows what it is, i'll go into more detail, but i doubt we'll solve this one.

Anyhow, once all the cards are dealt, the deck of cards is put in the middle of the table. Whoever starts draws from the deck, they can now choose to replace any card in their hand (which is in two vertical rows of 3 with the 2 face up cards on top, as i mentioned before), even the face down cards. You can't draw any card and put it face down, all cards in the game after the first deal will go face up. If the player uses the card drawn, the player places the card that was replaced face up next to the deck in the middle. Now the next player gets to either draw a card from the deck, or use the previous discarded card.

If someone draws a card from the deck and wishes not to use it, they can put it in the 'face up pile' next to the deck. The goal of the game is to end up with the least amount of points as possible. If two cards across from each other match (for example two 8's, one at the bottom of each row) they cancel each other out and equal to 0 points.

The game continues until someone has all of their cards turned over, then everyone else gets 2 more draws to try and complete their hand. If people still have cards face down at the end of the game, they will turn them over. So here is an example of 3 hands at the end of the game...

P1 ends up with 3 points (aces are -3 and Kings are 0 as mentioned above):
A K
7 7
2 4

P2 got 2 points (Queens are 30 but they cancel each other out being across from one another):
5 5
Q Q
K 2

P3 ends up with -1 points and is the winner:
4 4
A 2
3 3

Like i said it's kind of complicated, but i think i explained everything, i'll edit again later if I think of anything else. If no one figures out the name of this game, at least they can maybe use it as a guide to play the game themselves, it's a fun game.

From a google search that doesn't seem to be it.

Sounds like we're getting closer maybe.

oops, we called this golf, irish poker was a different game we played,

Everyone got 4 cards, none face up. Each person could look at two of their cards at the start but that's it. Then you can draw from the pile or from the top of the discarded pile to try and get pairs.

10, J, K =10
Q=0
pairs=0

so fairly similiar but not the same

*edit* oh I forgot, when someone thought they had the lowest score, the knocked and everyone else got one more turn

Kinda sounds like a variation of that. If there really is no name for the game i described, i guess i'll have to make one up :p
