What is this "bump" thing?

Could someone please explain why I see so many posts with the simple response of "bump?"

Could it be that this forum is supported by the number of postings and so the managers of this forum give little rewards or titles i.e. "member" and "golden member" to encourage, even reinforce the number of posting, even if there is nothing to say?

To my pigeon friends-
have you ever heard of B.F. Skinner?

'Bumping' a thread pushes that thread back to the top of the pile, so that it is easier for other members to see. This often occurs when the thread starter asks a question. If after a period of time that question has not been answered, that user (or another) may put 'bump' or 'top' as a reply, so that the message will be top of the list when people go into the forum.

also alot of people use it as an excuse to bump there post coun't we like to call them Nefs :D
