I have a bunch of video files (mostly futurama episodes) that don't have any audio. Media Player trys downladoing a codec for them, but it never works. I downlaoded media player 7.1 to see if that would help, but it didn't..... what codec am I missing???

I thought this was inferred, but the Video works fine, the audio is what doesn't work. I already have Divx 5 installed.

Had the same problem yesterday. Divx didn't have audio so I rushed to download 3.11 alpha and voila! Audio!

Unfortunately there's no standard for audio and video codecs in DivX. Encoders are free to choose any audio codec they like, so even though they may be encoding video in DivX 5.0, they could be encoding audio in the same file in DivX 3.11, which is frustrating.

To find out what audio/video codecs the file is encoded in, you can right click on the file to view its Properties. Then, you can see what audio/video codecs you have installed by going to Control Panel->Sounds&Multimedia.

I was having the same problem myself for the longest time. I would try to look at some new, errr... "stuff" I downloaded and there would be no audio. Would really piss me off. Anyway, the codec I eventually tracked it down to (and the one you're probably looking for) is DiVX ;-) Audio. For the uninformed and curious, it's a hacked and lousy version of Windows Media Audio. Nimo has it, so you can just download that and be all set. A word of warning, though: the last time I checked, the installer for version 5 was corrupted, so you may want to look for version 4.4 instead.
