I went to pick up my sister from school today and I saw my old Computer Teacher. He always has stuff he gets from companies and I was looking at some old Intel 8 port router and he said if I wanted to take something, I should take this.

Can I put this to any use? It looks like it still works.

240v? That looks like a standard power cable like on the back of a computer to me...

"Input power AC 220-250V 50-60Hz 0.9A" :)

I'd say plug it in and hook up some pcs to it to see what you can do. If you could use it as a router, it's probably not a gateway first of all, and on top of that DEFINITELY doesn't have the nice web interface a $30 router from Best Buy will.

That looks to me like a hub for a training room or a classroom where a teacher can take control of a computer by pressing a button.

I don't really know exactly how they work, but I'm betting that it's virtually useless without some software to configure it.

Probably ran a couple G's EASILY when it was bought. Cool toy if you can get it working.

if its token ring then its practically worthless.

LOL - we just threw out a few million dollars worth of token ring gear. Bay networks BCN and BLN routers, about 23 Bay 5000 hubs loaded with FDDI and Token ring.

Damn, that's one big router. I'd suggest you try hooking it up, but like somebody else said, you probably won't be able to do anything without a browser interface or a manual, even.

you can attach to the serial port and do configuration from there.

But without a token ring NIC you no talkie-talkie.

-edit- it does however have two ethernet ports on it.

It wasn't bought by the teacher. He gets grants from tons of companies and gets a lot of stuff. Useless or not.
