No isn't a microphone. Like i said it looks like a small light.In fact I just plugged it in to one of the 3.5mm jacks in the back of the computer and it lit up.

This thing is the IR receiver for the remote and I think the little light thingy plugs into the back of it. There are 2 3.5mm ports on the rear of the IR receiver labeled 1+2. Maybe they are both IR receivers.

I wasn't belittling your photography skills. I find a lot of people don't even realize they have a macro mode on their camera. If you have it, it should give a much clearer picture of the item in question.

That is a Microsoft IR receiver for Media Center.

Chances are you have MS Windows Vista Ultimate and that is to control the Media Center portion of it.

I have the same exact thing for my Media Center.

Those wires with the head phone size jacks are IR Blasters, you would stick/tape them to the IR part of other devices you'd want to control through your Media Center.

For example if you setup your Media Center to function as a DVR and you wanted to have your cable box changed to a specific channel, the IR Blaster would send a IR command through that wire to your Cable box (if you had it affixed to it) and it would put it on that channel so the media center could record it to your computer. This of course would require that you have your cable box video and audio output going into to some kind of input for your Media Center PC.

No it is Home Premium. It does have Windows Media Center; and yes that is the IR receiver for the remote. As for the blaster, I will probably never use it.

I know I was just kidding. Yeah I probably could of checked out the modes of my camera
better. I don't use it much so I am not familiar with all of its capabilities. Thanks for the tip.
