So I'll be in town from the 23rd to the 5th of March, staying downtown at the Hilton. I'm going to try to get in a tour at Miller and the Pabst mansion...I've checked out your bus system, so I should be able to get to Bally's on Van Buren pretty easily. Also, there's a pool hall west of the hotel on Wisconsin called Lenny's that I'll probably be frequenting.

I assume that the river's a nice place to walk and sightsee...but even in the winter? During the week I'll have a good amount of time in the morning/afternoon to wander, so any suggestions are welcome.

If you'd like to grab a drink, that would work too. :)

Water Street is where all the bars in downtown. Take you pick and walk from bar to bar.
Miller tour is supposed to be really good but the Sprecher Tour is supposed to be even better.

Not real warm but could wander down by the lakefront if it's decent outside. If you like naturey things you can check out the Mitchell Domes.

No sports teams worth checking out unless the Admirals or Wave are playing.

Hmm.

That's about all that comes to mind off hand.

Go eat at TGI Fridays at Miller Park. Its where the Brewers play and you can look in the stadium while you eat :)

And water street is definately a good time.

The Mitchell Park domes are neat as well. The Milwaukee Museum is also nice and affordable and has an Imax dome.

Our Art Museum is famous, especially for the outer structure with the opening and expanding "wings"

Check out Uptown. There's a slew of decent bars and restaraunts there as well. The Science Museum and Aquatarium (no, not aquarium) are rather new (opened last summer) and interesting, though I don't know if the exhibits are all filled yet. Right next door is a nice Art museum.

If you want a themed experience you can check out the Safe House, but it's rather "meh" IMO.

I love Brewtown, but there's usually more to do in the summer because the festival grounds are always booked out for one culture fair, wine and food festival, etc... or another every weekend. Summerfest is actually the largest annual music festival in the country IIRC, and the July 4th fireworks are awesome.

Milwaukees Best Ice RULES! 16oz 4 pack for $1.99, and it's suprisingly tastey! "IT'LL GET YOU DRUNK!"

What's there to do in Milwaukee? Eh, go to Chicago. :p Too bad you aren't in town when Summerfest is going on. This area is more fun in summer, winter time is kind of blah.

Nice, I close my laptop for an hour and I get 10 responses! thanks for the suggestions...as for Chicago, I'm there 3-4 times a year as it is, so no worries.

You could always take a day trip to madison. Badger bus will take you round trip for $30 and they run fairly late. Madison rocks....

Yeah, I've heard that it's pretty cool, but I don't know if I'd bother. highly doubtful. As for Madison, I can't take the trip unfortunately, as I'll be working every day.

Don't know if anybody'll see this in time (leaving at 3), but how much snow do you guys have still on the ground, up there in WI? For instance, Detroit got that nasty snowfall last week, but it's mostly gone now due to ~40°F days this last week.

Visit breweries? Visit the Harley-Davidson plant? (might still be on strike)

There isn't much snow in Madison.

Not too much snow, been in the upper 30's even 40's lately. Heat wave! You'll see some this weekend, though.

It's not something to do but here are some interesting things about Milwaukee.

It has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers began visiting here in the late 16th century. "Milwaukee" is an Indian name pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

If you are looking for some good upscale dining at a reasonable price, check out the coquette cafe. One of my few favorite restaurants in wisconsin. And I don't even live in milwaukee.

Not much now (iot's been in the 40s) but a huge storm is headed here this weekend. You're in for some fun.

The National Weather Service has issued a special statement on the winter storm approaching from the west.

Saturday will be a messy mix of sleet and snow before the heavy snow kicks in Saturday night. The latest Winter Storm Watch for the Milwaukee area says we could get 8-12 inches by Monday.

Because winds overnight Saturday into Sunday could reach 40 mph, the Weather Service said the storm watch could be upgraded to a blizzard watch.
