What is there to do in Houston?

My parents are moving to Houston and I'm going to visit them before I go off to university in the fall. I'm wondering what there is to do there when I go to visit. What should I do when I go down there?

You could melt. It's so darn hot here! 😉

Actually, if you're looking to do about anything, you could. Houston is widely known for being the fattest city in America, so if you like to eat at a wide variety of restaurants, Houston's the place.

A new Aquarium just opened downtown. There's all the museums and such. My wife and I saw the "St. Peter and the Vatican" exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science. That was pretty neato. If you like shopping, there's the Galleria. You could go to a Houston Astros game -- Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field) is a pretty nice facility. There's theaters playing obscure movies, as well as the Houston Grand Opera (currently playing a world premiere opera) and Houston Symphony. I don't go clubbing, but my friends like the clubs down here.

There's Six Flags Astroworld and NASA. Nearby Galveston has some neat stuff.

Dang, I sound like a freaking tour guide! 🙂

galveston is okay for a day trip.
there are some really cool old victorian houses around and the city is worth checking out.
the beach/gulf leaves a lot to be desired however, unless you LIKE smelling like oil.
