You make it sound like its satisfying in the way restoring a classic car is satisfying, which isn't the same thing as a pet to me.

The way some people are about their cars, they damn well seem like pets to me. Just lacking the autonomy of a living being.

Cats are fine. They don't give a shit about you but they're easy to take care of.

Dogs are fine too. They love you unconditionally but they do require some effort.

I love birds, but I don't think they're great pets. We had two cockatiels when I was growing up - my mom still has one of them, I think she's 16 now. The other got adopted. Thing is, birds (at least hand-tamed ones) can be very affectionate, almost like dogs. But they're messy and noisy. They fly around, they poop everywhere, they chew everything, and they require constant attention.

I love my cockatiel but I wouldn't want one as a pet.

a friend of mine's mother had a cockatoo (i think it was). the damn bird was friendly and tame. though for some reason it didn't like me. it would always try to bite me and if i got to close to it while someone was holding it it would bite them.

i wouldn't mind one but having a bird for 50+years is a little longer then i want a pet.

I like how after you see all the cut photos of their loving pet moose you got a link for "Moose Hunting Home" :D

That's kind of an important point. That moose will be at a severe disadvantage in the wild. Anyone hunting that thing will just have to lure it home with a honey bun, then club it in the backyard. Personally, I'd try to discourage it from leaving my property.

Yeah our cockatiels are the same way. The first one liked men and would only perch on my dad or my brother or me. The second one (the one we still have) loves women and only lets my mom get near her.

Cockatiels live a lot shorter than cockatoos though. 15-20 years is considered normal. Cockatoos can live 50 years or more, like you said. That's a big commitment; if you get one when you're middle aged it could easily outlive you.

a pet shark that you try to play catch with, and instead he just rips your nutsack clean off of your body and swims in joyful exuberance while you bleed out.

I grew up on a horse ranch, those are high maintenance when they are stalled. The horses out in the pastures only required feeding twice a day, but the stalls had to be cleaned daily. (30+ stalls, the other 20 or so were in pastures.)

That was a lot of poop.

Cats are assholes.

Not really, they are individuals though and they have a HELL OF A LOT of personality and individuality.

I admire that in cats because i'm a lot like that myself, i generally dislike everyone until they prove to me that they are worth my respect or liking.

Any reptiles, but especially turtles... they are TB/samonella machines.
