haha... yes!!! I bought one for $200.00 when I was 17. Those things were hillarious. Probably the ugliest (and most economical) cadillac ever made.

200 bucks? which caterra are you talking about

Absolute worst: 1988 Dodge Omni - paid $200 for it. Put 2 engines and 3 trannies in it. When the third engine blew the car went to Pick-Your-Part
Second: 1971 Ford LTD - Thing just kept having odd problems. One time one of the rear shocks fell apart! Just pieces hanging off the bolts! Another time I blew a spark plug doing 95 on the 91. There's a purdy hole in my hood now. Mechanics wouldn't replace the exhaust gaskets for less than $200 because they said the studs break off on these big-a$$ed 390's too often so they replace 'em automatically. Bullcrapola, but since it doesn't need smog we just keep driving it with exhaust leaks. Yes, "keep" was present tense. My brother-in-law owns it now. He replaced the tranny and shocks and all bushings! It's still butt ugly, but rides like a dream!

Currently driving an 86 Fiero (for sale!!!) and putting a new engine in my 84 Volvo 244. Engine swaps suck on anything made after 1968!!!! Too much vacuum crap, wires, and generally crapola in the way. :|

I think isaacmacdonald is thinking of the Cadillac Cimmaron not the Catera for $200... the Cimmaron was a hunk... I had one of those, but my worst car was a 1989 Mitsubishi Galant... everything you could possibly think of went wrong with that car... cost of ownership for 2 years (bought it used) was about $10k, it was so nice to get rid of that thing. I've also had a 1988 Hyundai Excel ... very close 2nd for worst car, and a 1989 Ford Escort GT... which was always breaking down, but the parts were so cheap, it was basically $50 per month in parts to keep it running.
Dang... I go through cars pretty quickly I'm realizing after writing this... I've also had a 1986 Mazda B2000 (super truck, quite running after 210,000 miles because a friend drove it into a telephone pole), a 1988 RX7 (which I loved... different experience driving that car than any other car I've driven... not faster, just a neat driving experience... top speed was about 130 which isn't much, but at 130 it was so smooth I could take my hand off the steering wheel), a 1995 Thunderbird V8 (my only leased car... would have kept it if I could afford it after lease... was still in college), and a 1999 Nissan Altima (which has treated me well these three years).

I've owned lots of < $1k cars and none have been unrelialbe but I did have an 81 plymouth horizan that I got for free because it broke down in my driveway. I rebuild the carb and did a few other cheap things to it and drove it a year before I got tired of it. It had a 1.7l 70hp VW engine and an automatic trans so it was SLOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! and with all that manly power still only got around 20mpg cause it was working its butt off to maintain speed. The front seats were ripped to hell, it had no carpet, no headliner, half the dash screws were missing so it rattled like crazy, but it ran well and always got me were I was going.

Sold it for $300 which was a little more than I had put in it. Best car invesment I have ever made :).

Back in 1984, my parents had to choose between purchasing a used Pontiac 6000LE or some Audi (4000?) of the same year ('82) for the family. They settled on the 6000.

'Nuff said. :disgust:

1995 GMC Jimmy. Bought in May of 1994.
During the last 2 years of its life (1998-1999) the damned thing broke down like clockwork - EVERY SINGLE MONTH.
One month, transmission. Next month, alternator. Month after that, brakes....ad nauseum.

My belief is that the car was not only built in a slave pit in Mexico by the mentally infirm, but the ghost of the car's intended owner came to haunt it. What had happened was that some guy ordered it for his wife, then she died a week before it arrived. I came just in time to snag it. :Q

For the record, GMC's build quality sucks. They outsource assembly to Mexico with the lowest common denominator of parts. GMC's customer service sucks. GMC's technicians suck and can't even glue on moulding without it falling off on the highway afterwards. Everything GM makes is crap, and I will never, ever, ever buy anything from that wretched POS company again.

Not only that, but I **STILL** get at least 3-4 recall notices a year for my g-damn truck! I sold the bastard thing 4 years ago!!
