What is the war with Iraq REALLY about?

Ok, some of you disagree with the "official position" that it is about disarmament and WMD.

I personally think Bush wants to spread democracy and freedom to the Middle East, I think the WMD is just an excuse to get rid of Saddam. That is ok, whatever works... Saddam is an evil SOB and no one is going to miss him when he's gone.

What I can't figure out is what all the anti-war people think this is really about. Is there some reasoning that you haven't been sharing (or that I haven't been hearing)?

I know some say it is about oil, but I can't follow that logic. Maybe I've missed something, but many people said the first Gulf War was about oil, and Iraq ended up pumping far less of it, not more of it, for the 12 years since then. We didn't steal any oil, American companies were all kicked out of Iraq, etc... If that wasn't about oil, how is this one about oil?

The anti-war people are just selfish, they live in free countries that were made free by war but don't want other countries to be freed the same way.

It is basically about preventing another 9-11, even though we don't know if there is a link between the hijackers and saddam/saddam's regime

The only reason I am suspicious of Bush's motives is that, as far as I know, the United States has never acted militarily without either being attacked first or with economic interests in mind.

Grasshopper, there is one and only one reason for the upcoming conflict. Bush is a hardcore Christian fundamentalist and he wants to get a foothold in the Middle East so that he can begin eradicating every Muslim on the face of planet Earth. He believes that if you aren't a Christian you should be dead. When he finishes with the Middle East he will move on to other parts of the world where people live who don't agree with his religious beliefs. If he stays in power long enough the whole world will be Christian, just the way God wanted it to be.

Oh, btw, he won't kill the Jews because they have a more direct line to God than he does.

Another BTW, after Bush has accomplished his goal he will be referred to as "He", not just "he".

AFAIK, you're right. This will be the first pre-emptive war...

I think that is a good thing, people in the world should not feel like we are pushovers... If you do stupid stuff, we'll smack you with our big stick...

LOL! :D

I assume you're kidding, since your other posts on these subjets are a bit more rational...

I would agree however that Bush is very sure of his religious beliefs...

I am for war but I have asked that question to many times and if am not sure. We are going certainly due to the oil and for some instant to finish what we started in 1990. I do not know how dangerous sad am is but maybe it will stabilize Middle East (I know it will not)

the first conflict was about when saddam took kuwait......ahem...hitler took the rheinland...............we got rid of hitler...but this time around, we didn't get rid of saddam....and he kills his own people....etc etc etc...

and yes...the oil prices here are ridiculous....my area = 2.24 for the 89 octane!! WTF! 2.50 for 91 octane (yes, so. cal = 91 octane the most expensive..)

and yes, help those iraqi people, and most of the middle east would like to have saddam out of the way anyways....too many pro's to go again't the cons of this upcoming war...
