I think that is a good thing, people in the world should not feel like we are pushovers... If you do stupid stuff, we'll smack you with our big stick...
Because everything we do and say is right.
No, it isn't... But we are more right than Saddam is...

By that logic, we are 100x "more right" than North Korea, yet W referred to that as a "regional issue" in a press conference last week and called on their neighbors (China, Russia, etc) to deal firmly with them. It baffles me as to why thready evidence of WMD and crimes against his own people are justification for war in Iraq whereas a flat statement that "we're going nuclear" and well-documented famine thanks to the government starving their people to maintain a large military in North Korea are not.

The only reason I am suspicious of Bush's motives is that, as far as I know, the United States has never acted militarily without either being attacked first or with economic interests in mind.
AFAIK, you're right. This will be the first pre-emptive war...

Ok, some of you disagree with the "official position" that it is about disarmament and WMD.

I personally think Bush wants to spread democracy and freedom to the Middle East, I think the WMD is just an excuse to get rid of Saddam. That is ok, whatever works... Saddam is an evil SOB and no one is going to miss him when he's gone.

What I can't figure out is what all the anti-war people think this is really about. Is there some reasoning that you haven't been sharing (or that I haven't been hearing)?

I know some say it is about oil, but I can't follow that logic. Maybe I've missed something, but many people said the first Gulf War was about oil, and Iraq ended up pumping far less of it, not more of it, for the 12 years since then. We didn't steal any oil, American companies were all kicked out of Iraq, etc... If that wasn't about oil, how is this one about oil?

: ) Hopper

Hahahaha, that's the most ridiculus reason I've ever heard. If that is really the case, Bush should be picking at China, Russia and the rest of countries that does not fit American model of government. Why pick on Iraq when you can free 1.2 billion people in China, open the eyes of ignorant Chinese to the greatness of western democracy, which is the only way to go in government. Oh, and I guess you and the American government are the God of the earth who decide how other people should live and govern themselve. Everyone else is just too stupid to decide.

LoL yea..this war isn't about liberating the Iraqi people...nice spin though.

"We should not send our troops to stop ethnic cleansing and genocide outside our strategic interest. I would not send the United States troops into
Rwanda." - George W. Bush

I believe in it, Bush and Cheney probably don't cause they have alterior motives like fat contracts for the oil buddies, but then Clinton had to hand out contracts to his cronies as well.

What's the difference Saddam is starving them, torturing them, and killing them.
