What is the theorum that states...?

DaShen

Lifer
That I can half the length (or fraction the length) between two infinitesimal points as much as I want to infinity and never reach the other point.

Basically a theorum about asymptotical relations.

I'm no math major (but I play one on the TV) but did someone actually come up with a theory that states something so obviously incorrect and idiotic? Someone had too much time, wine, smoke and chirpy birds in their head. Or something like that. Yeah.

Ummm... if you took Calculus or Trig in HS, you covered limits right? What do you think that is?

So a mathematician and an engineer were each placed in front of a beautiful naked woman, and told they they could reduce the distance between them by one-half every minute.

"Oh no!" despaired the mathematician. "I'll never reach her."

The engineer just smiled and thought "Soon enough, I'll be close enough."

The physicist on the hand just walks away and creates an Einstein-Rosen bridge so the distance is zero 😉 😛

Place two women on one side of the room, and two men, one an engineer, and one tech on the other side. Tell them that each step they take will get them half the distance the women. The engineer will say "We'll never be able to get there!". The technician will say "I'll get close enough."

Edit:
DOH! That's what I get for being bothered in the middle of reading a thread 🙁

Wow...ignorance strikes again...I am a math and CS double major and didn't think it really took a genius or math major to understand the concept.

Take a distance of 10 feet. Multiply that by 1/2. Now again....now again....no matter how many times you do this, will you ever get 0 as an answer? No. See? Not that difficult to understand.

😉 Ummm... I just needed the name of the theorum. LOL. read the thread.

my apologies...I intended to quote the statement by MichaelD...my statement was not directed towards you, sorry
