What is the sudden slate rage about?

Really, does anyone care about carrying a "slate" around wherever they go? Didn't the industry try this already with tablets a few years back and no one gave a crap.

Now everyone is getting their panties in a bunch for new tablets, I mean, slates with even crappier processors and lower end touch panels?

I am hoping the iSlate brings something new and exciting to the table, or else I see these devices failing miserably.

Hey, I am hoping Apple comes out with something special. But that 3 second video of HP's Slate made me realize how useless these devices are.

Do people really need 4lb, 10in iPod touches?
