What is the story with the V Chip?

Why are people complaining about racy ads and Saving Private Ryan when theoretically they can block it out with the Vchip? Has it not been fully implented yet or what? Wasn't that something that got started back with Clinton. Wasn't the point that we could censor ourselves instead of having the zealots do so?

Do you have any idea how many tvs are out there that don't have V chips?
If it is older than 4 years, chances are it dosen't have one.

I wish people could just figure out how to change the channel instead.

How many? What percentage?

At some point you are going to have to legislate for those who have the newer technologies and push people to get the vchips.

I don't have statistic on how many old tvs people have, it has to be a lot.

They were only required to be installed in new tvs manufactured after Jan 2000, IIRC.

they were mandated 5 years ago. Correct, but mfgs have been using them for about 10 years.

I think most people that still have tv's with wood cabinets and a UHF-VHf switch, dont have children.

A lot of people still would have tvs that don't incorperate the chip. Both my parents, for example, have such tvs.

Most people are too lazy to figure out how it works anyway.
