There must be some document somewhere that explains how they came to that conclusion. Obviously the cost of the actual execution is not more than years in prison, so I'm wondering what else is included - like cost of appeals, etc. I want to see raw numbers.

This thread is not open for discussions of the merits of capital punishment. Take that to P&N please.

It's pretty much understood that because of the mandatory (read: costly) appeals process, an inmate awaiting execution on death row cost more than someone in prison for life.

Well isn't is like 40-50k per year to house an inmate and then just compare that to the legal process, paying for lawyers through all the appeals and such.

In my empire, it will cost no more to execute someone than it costs to feed and house my hangman, and the condemned's estate will pay for that.

And you'll put to death a countless number of inoccents. The appeals process is highly regrettable, and very necessary.

The innocents are a myth.

My subjects will live but to serve me. They will fight each other and claw the eyes of their own kin to die in my service, or for my amusement. They will line up before my headsmen at their own volition, that they may receive an honorable death in pouring out their blood for their master.
