Do you need to have a full PDA/phone to be able to sync contacts with your PC?

dunno...

I'd like to get my wife a new phone that can do this, but WAF is heavily affected by phone size.

OK, with a bit of googling, I have determined that many many phones can do this with third party DL kits. Are there any that have it as a built in function other than the PDA phones??

Here's the log from my online chat session with a Verizon rep:

Please wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience!

A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Tricia

Tricia: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. How may I help you today?

You: Other than PDA phones, do you have any phones that can sync contacts with a PC?

Tricia: I'd be happy to help you with that.

You: i.e. I want to avoid entering all my friends phone numbers again

Tricia: Yes we have the Lg V, Lg5200, motorolaV325 and the Lg3300.

You: thank you is that all?

Tricia: Yes.

Tricia: Were you interested in any of those phones?

You: I see nothing on the website that suggests those phones sync with the PC. Do they sync with Outlook or just back-up to the PC?

Tricia: You would need to purchase the Mobile office kit to sync with these phones but if you want to sync with outlook you would need a PDA or blackberry.

You: So what does the kit allow you to do exactly?

<note - there is a long delay here and I have a sense of doom creep in as the clock ticks by my afternoon...>

Tricia: Mobile Office Kits allow you to establish a connection to the Internet when you are within the Verizon Wireless enhanced digital network by using your existing Verizon Wireless mobile phone and a PC with USB support. The Mobile Office kit includes a USB cable specially made to fit your mobile phone, USB drivers, and connection software for the computer. Would you like to add this to your order?

You: that doesn't begin to do what I wanted to do.

You: I want to load phone numbers onto my phone from my computer. I also want to know if there are NON-pda phones that can do this.

Tricia: No only with the PDA phones.

You: Thanks for wasting my time...

No, mobile phone tools is the way to go, just need a data that can be had for fairly cheap and easily (radio shack or online) and the software.

Can back up the contact to Outlook if you want or to other formats also.

almost any phone with bluetooth can do this , with my samsung a900, i just select a contact, say send contact to bluetooth and it sends it. some phones maybe have weaker bluetooth stacks which might not have this profile (forgot the name). then you may need to use some tools ike phone tools etc

I think you can do this with most phones. Some don't even need a data cable. For example I have a Samung E-635 (pretty good WAF, very tiny) which I can sync with Outlook over the IR port of my notebook using the Samsung software (available from samsung website). You have to be careful though, some providers disable certain features on phones. Find a few phones that your wife likes and check on www.howardforums.com for info about syncing with a PC.
