WHAT IS THE SMALLEST DEVICE.............

Title kinda' says it all. I recall laughing at PDA's & such but now been considering gettin' something really small where I can do VERY SIMPLE tasks (like checking e-mail and THIS FORUM, etc, etc.).

What's the smallest........(and popular, I suppose I don't really need the latest $10,000 gizmo from Japan that fits in your ear)........that I can use for this???

Basic PDA?? (I'm totally ignorant on PDA's)

I recall a deal on one of the forums a while back that was this little thing that looked just like a tiny keyboard with a VERY tiny screen (kinda' like a morphed laptop) but that had a pcmcia port that you could certainly use a 802.11 card in.

Anyway..............fill my head with your knowledge if you'd be so kind!!!! 🙂

Well, if you're going to write email and check this forum, wouldn't you still want a real keyboard? You have to be extremely concerned with size to put yourself through the inconvenience of doing everything on a tiny screen with a stylus.

A small CE machine can have a semi-usable keyboard and still use the web. Generally 12" laptops are the smallest comfortable things, and 10" laptops are something you can get used to if your fingers aren't too big.

Most sites (including this one) are intended for 1024x768 and become very difficult to navigate in resolutions under 800x600.

Most people I know who have a Palm thought it was pretty cool at first but realized within a week that it couldn't really accomplish much more than their cell phone could. Some of the newer 640x480 ones with bluetooth & Wi-Fi are getting pretty nice, though, if you don't need a keyboard.

Thanks Tostada! Ya, I kinda figured as much and I have a Dell 600m so I really shouldn't complain, but there's just taht "pocket" factor.......LOL!

I'm gonna try & see if I can find that thing I was talking about earlier. It'll be good for a laugh if nothing else if I can find it!!

You may have just kept me from spending more money..........LOL.......

I know a bunch of people who have PDAs (and I know a lot of people that bought the 'best' and 'fastest'), and I have found that the ONLY thing people really use them for are for scheduling and for memos - maybe a few notes.

CHECKING email and/or forums is no problem... it's the 'writing' on them that poses an issue.
