The g/f says The Silence of The Lambs. It made her walk out of the theatre.

I say The Thing (1982). I watched on HBO when I was like 11. Bad, bad times.

I think it was Scary Movie. The one where the guy was hesitant about showering in public and dressing in the locker room and discovered someone taped a naked picture of him exposing his small penis and saying 'I know your secret!" or something like that. That put the fear in me.

Child's Play (first movie only) for some reason I find the idea of toys coming to life and stabbing people in the dark scary.

While not scary, the best horror movie, in my opinion, is In the Mouth of Madness. Plenty of monsters, but it's more about pure evil destroying the world and one man slowly going mad than ridiculously high body counts like in most slasher flicks or movies based on crappy horror-writer novels.

The Shining was just pure fvcking brilliance. I'd say it is the scariest movie I have ever seen. It's the only movie that really ever gives me chills.

Evil Dead was the scariest movie I had seen when I was very young. (saw it after my parents got a VCR when I was about 6 or 7)
Alien & Aliens were pretty damn scary when I was little.

Currently, I don't really think any recent movies are really that "scary", however, Audition and Gozu both had some interesting momments. Also, the movie "Spoorloos" was pretty evil.

I'll agree that "slasher" or "gore" movies aren't usually scary at all, but that's not gonna stop me from loving B horror. There are lots of amusing flicks out there, many are worth at the very least a good laugh. 🙂

Also, Shadowknight .... In the Mouth of Madness is awesome.

I found the remake of The Hills Have Eyes (unrated version) terribley upsetting. I had to turn it off because it was just way too scary and upsetting at one point. Later in the week I skipped the scene that had upset me so much and finished it.

I just have this crazy fear of mutants 🙁

There are no scary movies in existance. I've watched a ton that are supposed to be scary, but they all lack said scariness.

Friday The 13th part 1 & 2 or so, when I was 9-10 years old, and before there were a million horror movies. IMO there has never been another movie more scary than FTT. They may seem cheezy now, but back in the day..man. Also, the first couple Halloweens were very good. And Alien. Prince of Darkness wasn't bad. The Crow. And though it wasn't really a horror flick (nor was Alien), I really liked The Lost Boys (not a word...everyone did back then) and thought it was a bit scary and really cool back then.

But now it's all been done before, so many now rely on the disturbing to be the 'horror', which is just...disturbing. And not worth watching.

The only one that I can think of that I've seen in the past 20 years that's been scary is Wrong Turn.
