I have just put a 1GHz - 133MHz FSB . My Cpu is running at 46 C .
It seems way too hot for an Intel Cpu. Does anyone out there know the right temperature ?
All help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

46C for a 1GHz Intel is high, but not out of bounds. Mine is at 26C idle (depending on room temp) and 35C at full load. I use an Alpha. I would check (A) the HSF to make sure you have a good one (no gorbs) (B) the HSF to make sure it is seated correctly.

Maximum temp is in the 70-75C range. If your case temp is warmer, that could explain the higher cpu temp.

For example, my cpu is currently at a calibrated 35C, wtih a case ambient temp of 23C. So if my case temp were 32C, i'd probably have a cpu temp around 42C.

I think you're on the right track Lifeguard1999 with the heat sink fan.
It doesnt sit one hundred percent flat and is obviously not cooling enough the design of the fan set up with this cpu was unusual.
It was a very small fan as well , looking more like the heatsinks used with athlon cpu's.
Also an extra fan in the case itself although maybe helpful.
It couln't hurt.
Heat sinking compound and how much do you need ( the same as the rest)?
I really dont want to take the cpu out again but it sounds as though there is no choice.
Thanks G H
Ps What is Alpha ?
