Q6700 = 10x

Q6600 = 9x

X3210 = 8X

There was no 8x kentsfield on consumer side. Only enterprise side.

How do the 6700's overclock, i'd be putting it into my DDR3 1600 system ... is 4Ghz possible with these cpu's?

YMMV.

Depends on cooling also.

I haven't seen anything to suggest they'll go much beyond what a Q6600 could do. The higher multiplier just makes it a little bit easier to get to that point. I would pretty much rule out 4GHz.

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

Meaning there is a huge spread in the distribution of results.

(also gets stated as YMWV for your mileage WILL vary)

My multi-unlocked QX6700 would only hit 4GHz at -40C on vaporphase cooling. That was a B3 though, not a G0.

I think this goal (4GHz) on a G0 is only possible (for 95% of cases) if you are on water cooling or vaporphase.

Extremely rare for air-cooled stable 4GHz operation from a Kentsfield of any stepping/SKU.

See if you can find a cheap used Xeon X3210 Quad, I absolutely love the chip I got and it can easily do 3.6GHz =). My friend found one on Ebay for $145.

this 7.5 multi is a killer

hehe...

honestly if you love overclocking, bite the bill, grab a QX9650, and call it a day.
