What is the purpose of a wireless Networking Bridge?

When would it ever be used? Doesn't an access point kinda do the same thing? Any information on that?

access points are intended to broadcast. bridges are intended to recieve that broadcast.
most access points however can be configured to be a bridge as well so that you can hook a second wired network to the first without wires...
