What is the proper fit for dress shirts? UPDATED

Just mail ordered some shirts that end up about 1.5-2 inches before my thumb's first knuckle. In other words, before my thumb starts.

This is too short right?

If it doesn't go past your wrist, it's too short.

Measure your arm length and measure your neck girth. Then order that size "fitted".

Not according to everyone .. thats what confusing me.

Considering there is ~3" between wrist bone and 1st thumb knuckle, I'd say you're right.

Looks fine. Maybe a half-inch shorter would be ideal, but that's about as close as you're going to get with a non-custom made shirt.
