What is the process for getting a felony expunged?

There are two issues here: State and Federal

Since being a convicted felon either by federal or state laws can automatically impose liability on you by BOTH, having your federal felony expunged will not necessarily relieve you of any state liability, and having your state felony expunged will not necessarily relieve you of any federal liability.

IOW, find a lawyer, its complicated.

I dont know what state you live in but here is my best advice. Make friends with some connected people and get them on your side. Talk to the Chief Of Police and get his feeling about you and your quest. The appeal will probably have to be made to the Governor of your state. Try and get a appointment with the County Atty, Write a letter to the State Atty General and ask him/her for the procedures necessary.
Look for a real fight on this, generally speaking at least 10 years since the crime with NO violations of any civil or criminal law before it will even be considered.
I will also say that if the crime involved domestic violence it will more than likley never happen because you run into the federal law.

You will find that you will never be able to get this done wihhout some really good legal advice, be prepared to shuck out some big bucks to get this done it is not easy.

What exactly happened that was a 'felony'? Certain things that are considered felonies aren't nearly as bad as others.

p.s. On the application at my job, they asked if you've been convicted of a felony in the last 7 years. hth.

if you get the felony expunged, you don't have to check yes. AFAIK, most people don't through the trouble of getting a felony wiped, so that's the reason the box is there.

alleged? After you're convicted I don't think that word applies any more....

Definitely talk to a good lawyer, should cost less than $100 for a short consultation and you can decide where to go from there.

Depends on the Felony and Jurisdiction.
Remember the guy in Texas who wouldn't implicate the other criminals he was involved with?
His criminal act cannot be expunged, according to him.
