Libertarian/minarchist idealist, with a strong right-wing bias.

EDIT: Outside of dedicated political forums, does anyone know a more conservative/libertarian board than Anandtech?

That makes you a Libertarian.
Not really. Libertarian is less government interference. Less interference is not really a liberal or conservative idea. Both liberal and conservative sides want more control in some areas and less in others. For example, typical liberals want to keep government out of the bedroom (less government interference) but want tight regulations on industry (more government interference) while typical conservatives want to control your bedroom activities (more government interference) but want loose regulations on industry (less government interference).

You can be a left-leaning libertarian or a right-leaning one. I could call myself a left-leaning libertarian but I detest the tea party which is mostly right-leaning libertarian.

Socially liberal (human rights and whatnot), fiscally conservative (fuck entitlement programs).

I find that the majority of America is like this but for some reason the Libertarians can never get any power.

I was listening to NPR this morning, and they were mentioning the Democratic shitbag candidates for president. That got me thinking that you never hear about any other parties. There's the Libertarian party, Green, and maybe Pirate, if not others. People need to be aware of other choices, and a network like NPR is the right place to do it. IMO, it's a dereliction of duty to not give access to other choices. Nothing will change until people become aware.

Edit:
Btw, I don't count Bernie Sanders in the collection of shitbags. I don't really agree with his politics, but I like and trust him. At least you know where he stands. That's more than you can say for most of the professional liars running for office.

The problem is that if you are going to have a society where you have to work to survive you have to either:

A) Provide enough jobs for everyone that needs them

or B) Have safety nets in place for the people that can't find jobs

If you don't do either A or B you end up with civil unrest, and since A seems to be impossible...

You could simply do A well enough that community and family aid can take care of B. It'd take a while for society to get used to that concept though. It's been so long since that was really necessary that it might not even occur to anyone to do it. It's become the new norm that everyone only has to worry about themselves because of the belief that the government safety net will catch the slackers.

Pretty sure we tried that and it wasn't working which is why Social Security was needed.

I voted Fiscal Conservative, but I'm kind of all over the place so none of the options really fit.

I don't want to derail this thread, but wasn't social security supposed to be temporary in the beginning? Just a kind of stop gap measure to get us through the Great Depression? In any case, once a politician gets something passed that sends a monthly check to any portion of society, there is no taking it away without major public outcry. We get conditioned to that shit FAST. Now getting rid of entitlement programs would definitely cause social unrest because it has become the new baseline.

Where's the option for being a member of the Apathy coalition?

Actually, forget it. I don't care.

This. The only thing stupider than politics is arguing politics.

Arguing about policy making, spending and the way your government runs things isn't stupid. What is stupid is stupid people arguing politics. Exhibit A is P&N.
