So a friend of mine Amanda dumped this guy Chuck about 2 weeks ago for aother guy she met at a bar. Cool, all good. Today I'm here with my friend Ash just chilling and we both get text pictures on our phones of Amandas shotgun wedding she just had with this new guy. Apparently there coming back to town tonight and were invited to celebrate there marriage..

I'm seriously just all 😕 now, what the hell is the point of a shotgun wedding?

So she a) got pregnant, b) figured it out and c) got married in two weeks?

Are you sure you know what a shotgun wedding it? It means the father of the bride's marching behind the groom with a shotgun to the altar to be sure he 'does the right thing'.

Some people are so emotionally screwed up and desperate for attention/affection that they do irrational things. Like get married to somebody after knowing them for a few weeks.

LOL at Amanda for screwing up her life and LOL at the guy that is holding her hand as she falls deep into the abyss of suck.

Do you even understand what a shotgun wedding is?

(yes, I know people are using the term to mean something other than what it originally meant)

Exactly. And that's a product of religious fanaticism.

It all depends on your point of view. As the father-in-law, the point is to save the good name of your obviously less than wholesome daugher. As the daughter, the point is to keep daddy happy and avoid having a child out of wedlock. As the groom, the point of the wedding would be to keep breathing.

Is Amanda a hottie or is she just easy? I'm sure if she laid a guy that's never got any before he might jump in with both feet. I just have to question their intentions since they won't really know each other for another year or so....

yea and unless daddy was furious and ready to kill the groom if he doesnt marry his daughter, then its not a shotgun wedding, just a mistake aka a quickie.

they may have decided they need the tax break and are going to keep it an open relationship?

?? It's not wanting to have the daughter raise a kid alone for financial and other reasons.

Any father who's willing to kill a man who won't marry his daughter would surely be willing to provide space in his home for his daughter and grandchild. The shotgun wedding is performed to avoid the shame over having a daughter who gives birth to a bastard child, which is purely a religious concern.

By "religious" you mean "societal", perhaps?

Clearly this, if at the very least a combination of the two.

The older I get, the more I notice that people no longer know the meanings of some common expressions like this.
