What is the point of remote start on a car?

If you live in a hot/cold climate you can heat up or cool off the interior before you get in. In colder climates it also heats up the engine without you sitting inside and shivering.

Unless you've got a frickin' long extension cord it may not always be possible to plug it in. Plus, it's a lot more convenient.

The engine heater doesn't warm up the inside of the car when the outside temperature is 0° F.

I bet more people have it for the alleged 'cool factor' than for practical purposes.

Or, if you're like a guy I used to work with, you just want to impress people.

It's a great way to get the snow of the windows. Just start it up and in a few minutes it's all melted away. I don't even keep a snowbrush in my truck anymore...well in the winter that is:)

In the summer it's nice not getting into a 130 degree truck too.

Doesn't your BIOS have an option to turn on at a set time?

Mine boots up at 05:00 every day. ;)

Really? Never noticed that in my BIOS (Abit KG7)

I guess I could use an appliance timer.....but how crude!

!!

most have keyboard power up feature, or lan power up feature .. but not timer like that! that's pretty neat.

But then again, my computer boots up completely from the time i press the power button to everything loaded and ready to go in 30 secs :D

Anyplace that sells car alarms will usually carry them. They run somewhere in the $80-150 range.

Once saw a BMW M5 with remote start... For those of you who are unfamiliar with the most ultimate Ultimate Driving machine currently in production, they only come in standard. When she hit the start button, the card dropped the clutch and everything.

Mine wakes up from hibernation sickness and wakes me up with (yippidy-do!) internet radio from Sheduled Tasks. Gotta make sure the volume is good b4 I hibernate or I keep hibernating.:clock:

My dad was gonna install a kit in our Envoy, but the dealership didn't reccamend it. They told us that they've had a lot of people who done it come in complaining that their Envoy would start on it's own any given moment.

Just don't have a hack install it...simple as that.
