First, open source is about being free to use as you wish, not about developing anything.

Second, how do you count? All the java/flash-based little games mainly targeted for mobiles and browsers, don't they run on almost every platform (except some consoles)? Are they really less than 10% of all games?

Third, as dominant as Windows is for gaming, there are (console) games that have never been ported to Windows. Furthermore, older generation of games tend not to run on Windows 7 conveniently or at all.

Linux cannot run all games, but neither can Windows, OSX, or consoles. A fact, but is it significant?

Entirely unrelated question: What does "not worth the hype" mean? I thought that "hype" means same as "much ado about nothing". If so, then by definition every hype is worthless to begin with. Where was that hype that made you inquire about Linux? What did it claim?
I don't play flash games. I play real games than require proper hardware.

I also don't play console. But there are a ton of console games ported to PC that are terrible.

Consoles are the reason there are so many casualized games coming out. They are also the reason PC developers don't take full advantage of graphics. Gotta dumb a game down in every way just so the consoles kiddies can play.

I have not had a problem running a single old game on Windows 7. There is compatibility mode, DOS Box, and other ways to play old games. Might wanna research that.

really can you play Battlefield 3 on Linux? No.

If you're going to play the "I'm asking about Linux as a backdoor for claiming Windows is better" game, I have better things to do with my time. This is supposed to be a technical discussion; immediately dismissing other people's arguments is not having a discussion. So consider this your one warning on the matter, as next time I close the thread.
