DRM cannot keep large scale, determined pirate efforts from pirating. to encrypt something you need 3 things: the content, the algorithm, and the key. to decrypt you need the same 3 things. every DRM effort hands all 3 things to anyone who purchases the DRMed content. so all DRM can be cracked.

the worst thing about DRM is what it has done to windows vista. windows vista has been designed with 'the user is the enemy' in mind. what a crock of crap.

I made sure i bought my digital media player WITHOUT any DRM crap on it, the cowon A2 does a great job of playing almost every non-DRM format. I think the only reason DRM-media is even purchased, is because things like i-pods can only play DRM media.

I just read up on trying to close the "analog hole" but form what i understand, thats not possible, as you can't both conceal and display a signal at the same time. This means DRM can NEVER be fully sucesful even if no one could break it, which we can.

Again, i think these idiots legislatures have no idea that no matter what tech terms they use in there ill-formed laws, and no matter how much they think they're restricing media copying, we can ALWAYG go around it, if not hacking, simply by using what these same mis-informed people call the "analog hole" which is not even a hole, because it's not possible to close it.

Rant done!

Anyway, HDCP.
