Man, WTF? I'm guessing the people claiming IB have never actually worked a true blue collar job in their life.
I planted trees in British Columbia for 9 years. Running around with 40-50 pounds of seedlings in terrain that most people wouldn't be able to walk on. Piecework, so if you want to make money, you go full-tilt all day.
I've worked other hard jobs too, but nothing else compared, because I was always able to rest a moment. Planting, I never did.

It's just ludicrous. One of my best friends is an investment banker, he isn't the least bit physically overworked.
Investment banking is a farily encompassing term. A lot of factors decide how demanding the position is, including: position in the firm, location of the firm, the name of the firm, IB division, etc.
However, all in all investment banker and not overworked do not belong in the same sentence.
Edit: Just to clarify, bankers at firms outside BB in New York can expect to work 10-20 hours less per week than their NY counterparts, as can employees of small, boutique firms. This is quite a significant difference.
Look, there are many, many jobs that require lots of hours and various skills to do, but that doesn't make them the most physically demanding, not even by a long shot.
I think IB is in a league of its own in terms of expected work hours per week and versatility required of workers.
However, it all comes down to how you define physical exertion. True, you probably won't break a limb on the job as an investment banker, but the job certainly takes its toll if you're still doing it when you're past 30.

White Collar...showers BEFORE going to work, primarily to get rid of "bed head", work shirt BUTTONS up, can stop at any establishment after a full days work and have a couple martinis to relax from the "rigor"
Blue Collar(that would qualify amoungst the physically hardest)....MUST shower after even a partial days work if he expects any lovin from the mrs. or wants entry into any decent establishment to pound down a couple to forget their day. Probably pulls a t-shirt over their head, and can jump into "Fred's truck" 2 minutes after waking up before showing up at the job site...nobody notices his mussed up hair.

What are you proving?
1. At least 2/7 days of the week I don't have time to shower
2. Suits are more uncomfortable than t-shirts, but what does that have to do with anything?
3. I have time to go out perhaps once every 2-3 weeks, and that time is taken away from sleeping.
4. Good luck trying to keep a miss for more than 6 months as a banker
5. Am on the subway 2 min after I wake up, if I'm not at work already.
Buck Hay for a corporate hay exporter 14hrs a day 7 days a week. Job entails throwing 150-200lb bales of Hay into a steaming hot container.

1. Soldiers/Fishermen do not have the luxury of a shower
2. Suits serve no purpose other than to keep a "professional" appearence, other jobs mentioned have uniforms that serve a very basic, utilitarian purpose
3. Again, many jobs don't offer that luxury to even go out
4. I've got trouble keeping a miss just because of my regular schedule/you're talking to a forum full of nerds who don't know what a "girl" is; what's you point?

Prove? there is no need to prove that there is not a single white collar professional job that could possibly be considered amoung the most physical demanding..its a given
You are sadly mistaking "time" for physical exertion.....some people have to do both (physical exertion over long periods of time) but it aint any investment banker doing their job. The fact that you are even arguing that point is laughable to anyone that has had to toil for a living.
any sport, probably the most physically demanding would be fighting, boxing, mma fighting, etc...

is it any different then lobster fishing? set a trap come back and check it type thing? yes i know lobstering isnt easy i know qhite a few of them personally however i dont think even they woudl put it as that phusicially hardest job their is
