What is the normal CPU temp for a AMD XP 1600+? I may have a heat problem!

I was checking me CPU temp with the PC Alert III monitoring system. It states my CPU temp is at 129 degrees F or 54 degrees C. Is this okay? The system is under minimal load i.e. browsing the web.

Mine is running at 34C overclocked to 1540Mhz at idle. What heatsink do you have on it?

54 is high for idle temp. Some people can get it to run in the 30s with sinks like PAL or their room temp is 15*C :). Most people have it in the mid 40s I think.

Whts ur ambient temp & case temp ?

Generally, 54C is slightly high but if ur system is stable...dun bother.

I tested on Asus A7V133 w/ XP 1500+. Temp as follow: -
Ambient = 30C
Case temp = idle@38, f/load 39C
CPU temp = idle@51C, f/load 55C

Running on stock cooler w/ pad. Stable as rock.

Depends on the mobo. My XP 1700 never runs below 55c according to my K7 Master's temp probe, and it has run as high as 65c on hot days. No heat related problems though.

<< What do you mean with pad? >>

Means I dun use aftermarket termal compound (which is better). I just use the "pink thing" under the std cooler & install the HSF + CPU. The pink thing is called termal pad.

mine runs @ between 28C and 35C depending on load and room temp. i dont think that 54C is that high, as long as you dont have any heat related problems, but the cooler the better i guess.
