I imagine we'll see a merging of 3D "gaming" and social networking (myspace, facebook).

A virtual, ever-expanding, 3D world where people can gather online and do a plethora of things, from just conversing, playing a round of e-golf, laser-tag, watching or listening to media, user-shared or possibly live events (football game). Going e-shopping with the gals. Virtual malls with purchasable products, services. The possibilities are seemingly endless.

In old laptops it is an issue since the Video card is usually Not upgradable.

Definitely true. I run Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 8600 from 2004. Runs decently (and much better than Vista did) but running the aero tests seems to lock up the system because of a hardware limitation of the card.

One of my Laptops is a Dell 8600, FX5200 32k Video card.

I worked few hours and manage to get Aero working.

You must have at least 1GB of RAM and use this Modded Drivers.

Why this version? I do not know I tried few versions and this one works.

With the popularity of the iphone, I'll guess touch screen monitors will hit the main stream in a few years. Or whenever MS gets that desk/screen thing out of concept.

People being able to interact more "hands-on" with their photos/music/etc. will cause people to want whatever it takes to drive it.

touch screen on a pc/laptop is just awkward - it works great in vista/win7 but you will not use it.
Put touch screen in the gimmick category.

I understand it is a "gimmick," and less functional than a keyboard and mouse. But think about what would cause the masses to upgrade their machines to more serious hardware, and I think it would be photo/music/video applications driven by touch screen capabilities. Yes this is sort of available now, but no one has cast it out yet apple-marketing style.

People being able to connect with other people is new and interesting ways is what I believe drives the masses in technology purchases.

When the "Mouse" came into our live some people called it a Gimmick too.

When color screens started to come out there were voices of resentment that it is costly and Not really needed.
