What is the most you've spent on lunch?

A friend and I accidentally caused a change in policy at work.

We used to have "Tech lunches" where our team leader would take us out for a lunch meeting and we'd talk about our projects and statuses.

A friend and I would often go to Applebees for lunch, and they had a steak fillet and salad lunch for $7.99. It was pretty good and cheap.

We went to this fancy place we never heard of for the meeting, and we both said "do you have a fillet and salad lunch?"

"The waitress said "Sure! We can do that!"

We ate our lunches, and then got the bill: we had filet mignons and Caesar salads, at $55/each! Our leader was afraid to turn in the expense report 😀

A week after that, we all got a memo that lunch expenses will cover $12 max, and we'll have to pay the difference out of pocket. Whomp whomp.

At least they let you have team lunches. I was hired to run software dev at this one public company in the pharma space. The team was utterly screwed up and demoralized and the current CEO encouraged me to take them out to lunch once a week and do exactly what you guys were doing. About four weeks into my stint the board canned him. The interim CEO didn't pay any attention and I continue the practice. They finally hired this dickweed to take the job and right after I submit the first expense report for a team lunch I get an email from him with one line: "Cut this shit out." As a VP and exec. committee member I was invited to the board dinners. We had one later that week for something like 15 people at one of the priciest places in town. Bill well over two grand.

I clashed with this guy over and over, and a few months later he demoted me, triggering a vesting clause in a retention agreement the idiot didn't even know existed, and I walked with six figures in stock right before they tanked. Last laugh -> me.

I spent 18$ the other day on lunch and felt guilty for it 🙁

That was sunday afternoon, its now tuesday afternoon and I havent eaten since 😛

Client lunches and I have exceed $125 per person. Usually those are late lunches that means the work day is over. Client dinners...I've exceeded $250 a person and that usually involves an expensive bottle of wine or three.
And I better bring in more revenue from the client that month than I spent meeting with them.

I went to lunch with a couple friends yesterday, 3 of us total. We went for sushi at Bluefin sushi in Newport Coast.

I'm embarrassed by how much we spent for lunch. 😳

Now go eat at Mister A's in Hillcrest and tell me how you feel. I did that for my birthday four years ago when I was still living in San Diego.

What kind of sushi did you have exactly? Because a good sushi buffet (~$30pp and not the $15 chinese/japanese buffets) is much more worthwhile. Ordering $8-$14 for 6 rolls is silly when you can have all you want and then some [other foods] for $30. You should be embarrassed.

I just had an awesome lunch for $9. 2 slices and a chicken roll at my fav pizza place.

We ordered 3 specialty rolls (those were $28/ea) and a few orders of sashimi (5 pieces each). Then there were the 5 large sakes we ordered and the 5 grey goose martinis. That was pretty much it. :awe:

there is no way a sushi buffet can compare to bluefin. NONE.

That's like saying a honda CRV is the same as an X5 because they're both SUV's.

I would guess probably around 45 dollars at a steak house in Cleveland OH. Honestly I can't really think of a place that I've ever been to that I would consider expensive, although I could see spending alot more if I ordered drinks or something.

Admittedly you were in Laguna Beach, but when you're in SD, Sushi Ota in PB, or Harney Sushi in Old Town.

Killer sushi without killing the wallet.

Newport Beach actually. My friend lives there and I go up to his house every couple weeks to ride mountain bikes in the hills there. Sometimes after we ride we'll head over to Bluefin for sushi. I think this was the most damage we have done there yet. Might take it easy on the booze next time and just stick to a beer or two.

I never mind spending money on quality food. Hell last time I had lunch at Dave & Busters, it was $15 for a salad or $18 for pasta. That's when I just have a drink instead.

I think Sushi should be cheap.

Its fish, they just pluck it from the sea, they dont have to feed them or anything. Also, its not even cooked, they just cut it and its done. Therefore, sushi should be super cheap.

As far as most lunch with the gang, , We always keep it under $20, generally around $7-14 per person.

Now, on vacation, or on weekends, I have spent quite a bit more. I believe I have spent $350 or so at hopcat for lunch with my brother, and our womanfolks. The women each had like 1 sammich and 1 or 2 drinks. I drank all the stouts, many of the sours, a quad or two, and some high gravity IPAs... My bro drank about 3/4 of what I drank (he is only about 60% my mass though, as he is puny)

You can make that argument about anything.

Spaghetti? Tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil.
Steak? Salt, pepper, sear, done.

Of course I am serious.

Also, I know you will tell me i am wrong because they have mr fancy pants for a chef who cuts thin slices and that they use seaweed (aka, horrible gross poison!) and fancy rice (which is good), and they serve it with sake on a plate (I give them bonus points for liquor on a plate idea, though I prefer a tulip glass, goblet, chalice, or mug.

Id take tempura scallops over just about any sushi any day.

do you have any clue how to even catch a tuna? the first requirement is that you have to be about 60 miles off the coast in a boat. and you think that having someone else go catch it and prepare it for you would make it cheap?

Well at least you know you're wrong.
