Noo really Ghost Story is extremely scary. The Exorcist wasn't scary at all. Come on, it's just the Aura

Hill House was great, but it wasn't scary. I'm talking about the original black and white btw.

What is the deal with people thinking Event Horizon was scary? Event Horizon was merely gory, not real scares... The only thing that scared me about that movie was the fear that my eardrums would explode. Apparently the director decided that he needed to signal that fact that we should be scared. He chose to do this using sheer volume.

If you want a truly scary movie, watch The Sixth Sense, or even Stir of Echoes.

Also, the Exorcist was more 'discomforting' than it was scary

Definately "The Exorcist". It may not have the "wet-your-pants" factor that movies like scream have, but "The Exorcist" stays with you for a while. I think my father's intense fear of Ouija Boards is a by-product of that movie. Very un-nerving psychologically.

In Event Horizon, there were many disturbing scenes. The video log of the previous crew, the death of some of the new crew members, and Sam Neill's(SP?) character turning into whatever he turned in to...it was a freaky movie....

Ooh, whoever said Seven is right on track. That's one of those movies that makes you look over your shoulder about every 10 seconds.

I agree that several scenes in Event Horizon were 'disturbing'. I just find that 'disturbing' and scary are two different things. Event Horizon was disturbing, but it completely failed to build up tension, or to be genuinely scary. It ended up replacing fear with disgust, tension with volume, and scares with gore...

Of course, this is only my opinion...

P.S. I believe, actually, that one of the scariest movies I have seen is actually "The Ghost and the Darkness". Tension was built up very well... And it is made scarier knowing that it is a true story.

Alan Parker's "Angel Heart", with Mickey Rourke and Robert de Niro.

Closely followed by Aliens

Seven. Watched that at 2 AM in the dark, by myself. Scared the sh!t outta me.

I watched part of Event Horizon, but I didn't like it. I quit watching it out of my hatred of sci-fi rather than fear. Especially since I never made it to the freaky parts.

There wasn't a movie that ever 'scared' me, but the most disturbing one I've seen is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Just for the fact it's based on a true story makes it that much more.

Hey guys, I'm back, I've purchased the DVD of Event Horizon, you all say it's either freaky ass all hell or it wasn't freaky but you liked it.... the only reason I'm not ordering the Exorcist is because my mother read that book and saw the movie, she was extremely freaked out by it and had that not been a factor I probably would have bought the Exorcist... but it's forbidden... at least under the roof of my house. Thanks for your help... I still would like to hear though what you think is a scary movie still... When I was little I watched the movie Predator and that freaked the livin' heck outta me... but I was like 7.... Now I think that movie is awesome!

Night of the Living Dead (1968) had the longest effect on me.
The Exorcist will always scare me.
Last House on the Left was the most disturbing movie I ever seen. Don't watch this movie unless you want to feel like crap for days after you see it.
Hellraiser I & II were the best "laugh at the gore" fests I have ever seen. Ditto for Dawn of the Dead
Evil Dead (any of them) are great "fun" horror movies.

HATED "Event Horizon". It was not scary in the least.

What a lame movie.

In the Mouth of Madness on the other hand was just weird. I can think of no other description for it.

Scary? Hmmm. (Definitely not Sixth Sense, while I enjoyed the movie, it was NOT scary.)

Still thinking..........

Too bad The Blair Witch project turned out to be an excuse to run around the woods with a Handicam - (Keep the camera STILL damnit) - it had some moments that made my blood run cold.
