Jefferson Airplane "White Rabbit"

When logic and perportion
Have fallen her sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head"
And Remember what the doormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head."

Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze"

Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just don?t seem the same
Actin? funny, but I don?t know why
?scuse me while I kiss the sky

The Bubble Puppy "Hot Smoke and Sassafrass"

In the mist of sasa-frass
Many things will come to pass
And the smoke shall rise again
To the place above where it began
Time will bring the foreign plain
Through the heirs that brought the rain
But in the gardens of the moon
Time is held within the silver spoon

The Doors "When the Music's Over"

For the music is your special friend
Dance on fire as it intends
Music is your only friend
Until the end

Cancel my subscription to the resurrection
Send my credentials to the house of detention

The Cream "Tales of Brave Ulysses"

And you see a girl?s brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

The Byrds "8 Miles High"

Eight miles high and when you touch down
You'll find that it's stranger than known
Signs in the street that say where you're going
Are somewhere just being their own

The Guess Who "Friends of Mine"

In Flanders Fields the poppies grow
between the crosses row on row
to mark the dead

To Flanders Fields the hippies go
to smoke the poppies there below
and feed their heads

And they're all friends of mine, each and every one of them, no better or no worse
And we'll probably end up down there together when it's all over..

Was it psychedelic or was it Bubblegum? Psychewdelic? Babblegum?

Crimson And Clover
By: Tommy James & The Shondells 1968
  • Ah . . .
Now I don't hardly know her
But I think I could love her
    Crimson and clover

    Ah . . .
Well if she come walkin' over
Now I been waitin' to show her
    Crimson and clover
    Over and over

    (instrumental break)

    Yeah
My mind's such a sweet thing
    I wanna do everything
    What a beautiful feeling
    Crimson and clover
    Over and over

    (instrumental break)

Crimson and clover, over and over (repeat to fade)
Not one of the spaciest, just thought I'd mention it.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, honey,
don't you know that I love you?
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, baby,
don't you know that I'll always be true?

Oh, won't you come with me
and take my hand?

Oh, won't you come with me
and walk this land?

Please take my hand!

everything by Hendrix is great, but the first thing that popped into my head was

"In-a-gadda-da-vida" by Iron Butterfly

the song is ~17 minutes long

About time someone mentioned the Beatles!

Within You Without You
Being for the Benefit Mr. Kite!
Strawberry Fields Forever

and of course:

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she?s gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmellow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you?re gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstyle,
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes.

Incense and Peppermints by The Strawberry Alarm Clock

Good sense, innocence, cripplin' mankind
Dead kings, many things I can't define
Occasions, persuasions clutter your mind
Incense and peppermints, the color of time

Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win but nothin' to lose

Incense and peppermints, meaningless nouns
Turn on, tune in, turn your eyes around

Look at yourself, look at yourself, yeah, yeah
Look at yourself, look at yourself, yeah, yeah, yeah!

To divide this cockeyed world in two
Throw your pride to one side, it's the least you can do
Beatniks and politics, nothing is new
A yardstick for lunatics, one point of view

Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win but nothin' to lose

I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night by The Electric Prunes:

Last night your shadow fell upon my lonely room
I touched your golden hair and tasted your perfume
Your eyes were filled with love the way they used to be
Your gentle hand reached out to comfort me
Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

The room was empty as I staggered from my bed
I could not bear the image racing through my head
You were so real that I could feel your eagerness
And when you raised your lips for me to kiss
Came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
[repeat chorus 2X]

Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Too much to dream last night
Oh, too much to dream [repeat to fade]

:( I thinks this one missed "The '60s by a month or two :) judges, can we get a ruling?

Mama told me not to come

Will you have whiskey with your water
Or sugar with your tea?
What are these crazy questions
That they're asking of me?
This is the wildest party that there ever could be
Oh, don't turn on the light 'cause I don't want to see
Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
Mama said, "That ain't no way to have fun"
Open up the window, let some air into this room
I think I'm almost choking on the smell of stale perfume
And that cigarette you're smoking 'bout to scare me half to death
Open up the window, let me catch my breath
The radio is blasting, someone's beating on the door
Our hostess is not lasting - she's out on the floor
I seen so many things here I ain't never seen before
I don't know what it is - but I don't wanna see no more
Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
Mama said, "That ain't no way to have fun"

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

The gardener plants an evergreen
Whilst trampling on a flower.
I chase the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour.
The pattern juggler lifts his hand;
The orchestra begin.
As slowly turns the grinding wheel
In the court of the crimson king.

On soft grey mornings widows cry,
The wise men share a joke;
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
But gently pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king

Not sure if it's in the same league, but I think The Zombies' "Time of the Season" should get an honorable mention, particularly if you've seen the video. It captures the Summer of Love very well.

Edit: Great thread! :D

Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?

If you can just get your,... mind together
then come on across to me
We'll hold hands an' then we'll watch the sun rise
.....from the bottom of the sea
But first

Are You Experienced?
Ah! Have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have

I know, I know
you'll probably scream n' cry
That your little world won't let go!
But who in your measly little world are trying to prove that
You're made out of gold and -a can't be sold

So-uh, Are You Experienced?
Ah! Have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have

Ah, let me prove it to you,.......... [insert trippy guitar solo]

Trumpets and violins like up here in the distance
I think they're calling our names
Maybe now you can't hear them, but you will ha
if you just, take hold of my hand

oh! But Are You Experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?

Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful

The Beatles - A Day in the Life

I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh and
I saw the photograph

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn?t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They?d seen his face before,
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords.

I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had a look
Having read the book,
I?d love to turn you on...

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Ah

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall.
I?d love to turn you on...

Or you could just say the entire Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album :)

It's Ummagumma and it was their 4th album. Several Species... isn't really psychedelic though, it's just strange. It's fun calling radio stations and trying to get DJ's to play it though.
