what is the most expensive food ingredient on earth?

Googled:

Did you know that the most expensive culinary ingredient is a truffle which comes in two colours, black or white (actually a dirty cream colour, but let?s not be pedantic). This knobbly fungus, which grows around the roots of oak trees, is traditionally harvested by pigs or dogs. Truffles are often used in pasta dishes and sauces or, for a very indulgent breakfast, grated over scrambled eggs. The best come from Dordogne in France (black) and Alba in Italy (white) and can fetch £3,000 a kilo. What makes them special? They have a rather strong aroma of old socks and body odour that?s delicious ? honest!

Pure, uncut Columbian heroin, delivered in a mexican's anus.

fixt^^

Heroin is a lab-processed opiate from morphine; not something that goes from Columbia to an anus. 😉

But that's just being anal. Ha-ha, *snort*, ha-ha. 😀

saffron

by weight way more expensive than gold.

Gotta learn how to grow that stuff then. What does it taste like anyway??

It comes from crocus flowers, so not hard to grow. It's just a tiny part of the flower though, so it's hard to harvest much. I have no idea about the taste.

I know that pure concentrated Sucralose is damn expensive Not the stuff you buy in the store which is mostly filler, but pure liquid stuff.

Last quote I got from McNeil Nutritionals put it at $2000 for a couple of pounds.

maybe 2000 years ago, today it cost like 30 cents for a pound. or free if you live by a salt mine or areas of ocean where they harvest salt.

Saffron has to be picked by hand. It's the pistil of the flower. Tastes great... fancy dishes with a "yellow rice" usually get that color from saffron. Buy a few grams of the medium grade stuff and add just a few threads to a rice/curry dish.
