What is the most difficult game you have ever finished?

Most of the really difficult games are form the 8 bit era IMHO but sometimes you came across a really hard game now too. Not that difficult equates with good of course.

I'm currently playing a puzzle/platformer Henry Hatsworth for the DS that's both surprisingly good and surprising difficult. Difficult in an old school platformer sense. I'm right at the end now but damn it's been hard getting here and the final boss ain't easy either.

Legend of Dragoon for the Playstation, took me quite some time to complete. Many late nights.

please tell me your kidding.....

that game was an abomination of and rpg. it might have been slightly long, but probably one of the easiest/shallowest games ive ever played.

I clearly remember thinking to myself that this game was wayyy too easy while playing it.

not that it was hard hard, but it was the one of the first games i ever put more than 40+ hours into.

so no, i guess difficulty wise it wasnt, but it was rather lengthy

lol sorry didnt mean to flip, but i completely forgot about that game until now.

It looked really cool, and the graphics were awesome at the time, i just remember being let down big time by that game. Probably because i was coming from playing Final fantasies.

lol dont sweat it

i was never into the FF series, 7 and 13 were the only ones i played (other than the newer MMO ones)

for the playstation i personally thought LoD was one of the best games ever made, at that time anyway....what like, 12 years ago now lol?

Contra: Shattered Soldier on PS2. memorized every bullet and movement and became an expert at it lol

Love Contra. Never played that version. I eventually got good enough at the original that I could finish it multiple times over with a single life.

If console port of arcade game counts, then Mushihimesama Futari Black Label (original mode) is probably the hardest. I have come pretty close to beating Deathsmiles, and also Contra: Shattered Soldier. Still probably have 80% of SS memorized. It's always the last section which you haven't yet fully memorized that kills you. 🙂

Ohhh fuck I love bullet hell games! While it's an OLD vertical shooter I think I have something of a world record score for 1942. 😀

If you ever get a chance to play Mushi Futari / buy it for the 360, do it.
Original mode is "easy" for a shmup, and doesn't require hardcore memorization, so it's perfect for someone like me who isn't a veteran shmupper. Even the score system is friendly and flexible, so you can jump right in scoring for early levels instead of getting bored in them.

Dragoon was the best RPG released for the PS1
