What is the minimum you need to open a photography studio?

How about this - if you're willing to buy a bunch of equipment, then maybe you should take a step back, and take a college class in Photography first. In a semester you should be able to find out everything you want to know about starting one up and the costs of it.
 
What kind of photography are you planning on doing? That really defines what equipment is necessary and what would be nice to have.
