What is the minimum requirement to run Win XP?

I read from a magazine that it should be PIII 600. Is it true? I personally don't think it's true but I need some condirmation from you people on here. Thanks

Officially from Microsoft, the requirements for Release Candidate 1 of WinXP is as follows (these are preliminary):

[*]PC with 300-MHz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system)
[*]Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
[*]128 MB of RAM or higher recommended (64MB minimum supported)
[*]1.5 GB of available hard disk space

The minimum requirements for Win98SE were a 486DX/66MHz with 24MB RAM. I wouldn't want to try that out. So, of course, if you actually want to get anything done, you probably would want to have a PIII 600 or better.

Read a review of RC1 from CNET.

No kidding?! My 486DX 33MHz with 8MB RAM could barely handle Windows 3.1.

Yes it is. I might even add more ram if I were you, if this is your primary system I would seriously think about 512Mb ram.

<< so is Celeron 433 with 256 MB of RAM enough to run Win XP?

My Athlon 550 with 256MB of RAM ran WinXP fine.

I've upgraded a bunch since then for games. But for basic 2D stuff that was fine.

I don't use my system to play games. Basically just for programming and browsing. So I think 256 is enough then. Thanks
