I would assume it is a linux/klinux based machine. I have a bunch of older machines (around 90) that I could probably get running, but they are all sloooooowwwwwwww.:(

This is kind of a rehashed thread but here goes:

for intel the slowest you can get is a 386 SX, any MHz will do. 286's don't do the 32-bit instructions you need for rc5.

i don't know about alpha or motorola procs...the lower limit is 32-bit instructions though (emulated or otherwise)

I should say that I had a 386/16 running for about a month. 5K/sec which is about 15 hours for a single 2**28 work unit. This was on a simple DOS boot disk with the client exe in the autoexec.bat

phule,
Put an ISA nic in that 386, and boot Klinux.
I'm sure it'll up the rate to at least 6Kkeys/sec. <<hehe>>

I've got a 386DX 25 running Dos 6.22 which gets a little over 16Kk/s. With turbo off it gets around 5Kk/s. It's got an ISA NIC in it now, maybe I should try out Klinux on it.

I may have you all beat. I've got a 486/8MHz cracking for me. There's something wrong with its mobo, so the Turbo switch has no effect. When it's on, it submits 1-2 blocks a day. :)

thats the spirit, i think id assimilate anything that has electrons flowing, if there were just some more clients out there.

SuperKen, it's not a waste of electricity, because it's not my computer. It's used in one office of my high school (sometimes). Since I'm not there anymore, though, I have no control over when it's on or off. But it's not wasting cycles! :)
